In thirty years, South Alabama Land Trust has protected more than 10,800 acres of important waterfront and watershed lands around Mobile Bay. In Mobile County, the Rangeline site, previously slated for development, is now a 65-acre tribute to biodiversity. A few miles south, the critical Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuary easements have allowed us to protect some nine acres of scenic habitat, plus an additional nine acres in partnership with The Nature Conservancy.
On the Eastern Shore and throughout Baldwin County, a diverse range of sites have been protected, from Fish River properties like Fish River Nature Preserve, and the Laraway property, to rural easements of more than 100 acres in size, and high-visibility lands as small as one acre. The diversity of residential, forested, and agricultural lands is an appropriate snapshot of the many thousands of acres throughout South Alabama we hope to protect in the future.
