Charitable IRA giving

Here’s a great opportunity to benefit the environment—with potential tax benefits for you.

It's a great time to give

Thanks to the permanent Charitable IRA Rollover Act, if you are 70 ½ or older, you can donate up to $100,000 from your IRA without having to recognize the distribution as income. You should of course check with a qualified tax advisor, but if you’re receiving taxable income each year from your retirement assets, the IRA charitable distribution may be just the thing for you. For instance, if your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) is $20,000 and you give a $10,000 Qualified Charitable Distribution to SALT, only $10,000 of the RMD will be reported as taxable income.

The distribution must be sent directly from your IRA manager to SALT, so please contact your manager and ask them to make a transfer directly to South Alabama Land Trust, 11401 U.S. Highway 98, Fairhope, AL 36532. SALT’s non-profit tax ID# is 63-1021925
